Building Conservation Services provides a service that combines technical expertise with extensive practical experience.  Several hundred projects have been undertaken in the UK for the conservation of historic buildings and ancient monuments, ranging in date from the 12th to 19th centuries. Five projects have received Design Awards. Clients have included the Crown, English Heritage, the National Trust, churches, local authorities, businesses and private clients. BCS is also the oldest-established supplier in northern England of traditional lime products for conservation, and also offers a range of ecological building products.  In addition, a number of workshops have been organised overseas on behalf of UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation) to provide training on the conservation of timber structures, masonry and traditional lime finishes.  Key services include:

·        Preparation of documentation for planning purposes, including justification for the conversion or development of historic buildings in accordance with PPG15 requirements;

·        Surveys, building archaeology and historical analysis;

·        The design, specification and implementation of specialist works to timber structures, historic masonry and traditional finishes.

The Consultancy for Conservation and Development is a  specialist and highly experienced international consultancy which works exclusively on heritage management and the conservation of ancient monuments and historic buildings with strong in-house expertise in archaeology and architectural conservation.  The consultancy has worked in 28 countries in Europe, the Middle East, Central Asia and the Asia-Pacific region, including work on major projects financed by the World Bank, the European Union and UNDP.  Its clients have included UNESCO, ICOMOS (International Council on Monuments and Sites) and a number of national governments ( Armenia , Kazakhstan , Nepal , People’s Republic of China , the Philippines , Vietnam and the State of Kedah , Malaysia ), providing services from its offices in the UK , Istanbul and Kathmandu .  Experience in heritage management has included the preparation of conservation plans, management plans and feasibility studies, including utilizing culture as a catalyst for development, particularly through sustainable tourism.  The conservation and management of World Cultural Heritage is one of the consultancy’s particular strengths.  International workshops on practical techniques for the conservation of ancient monuments have been organized on behalf of UNESCO in Armenia , Nepal , Bhutan , Vietnam and the Philippines .    David Michelmore, the Principal, is President of and UK representative on the ICOMOS International Wood Committee.  Key qualifications include:

·  Extensive experience in the management and conservation of cultural heritage and natural sites;

·  Extensive experience of documentation and conservation of ancient monuments and historic buildings;

·  Experience in the delivery of results for major projects;

·  Extensive experience in the preparation of development projects linked to tourism and cultural and natural heritage;

·  Experience of leadership of multi-disciplinary teams;
